“Relaxed glamour,” are the two words Sydney-based fashion designer, Regina Garde, uses to describe her semi-eponymous label, Regina Garde. It’s a look the petite design dynamo personally adheres to, ideal for her jet setting lifestyle. Since relocating from Bali in 2005, Regina has divided her time equally between bustling Sydney streets and her homeland’s balmy beaches, with this global pursuit of summer a key influence in her designs.
Clearly inspired by her native Balinese culture and the divinity of nature, Regina Garde clothing and accessories are youthful, vibrant and affordable, appealing to women in search of something a little exotic in which to navigate the urban jungle.
But it almost wasn’t to be...
Moving to Australia to study painting and sculpture at Sydney’s College of the Arts, it was only a fortuitous administrative error that resulted in Regina studying jewellery and metal object design, a course she instantly fell in love with. Intrigued by the concept of transforming flat materials into 3D objects, Regina decided to dabble in fashion design, and approached her mother and grandmother to pass on their knowledge.
Despite sewing injuries along the way, she was hooked! The Regina Garde label was born in Jan 2008 and, after testing the waters on ebay, the RG boutique swung open its doors the following December.
Inspired by “How human beings and the nature correlate with each other and create a series of emotions that each can be translated to the language of colours and patterns", Regina’s exotic upbringing is reflected in her use of luxury silk fabrics and a vast colour palette.
Regina unabashedly embraces femininity, with free flowing fabrics, translucent silks and soft cottons used to create her bright and vibrant collection. An unlimited colour palette and bold florals, tribal and signature prints adorn maxi dresses, playsuits, and skirts, whilst mix and match tops and bottoms are playful wardrobe staples.
Regina hasn’t abandoned her jewellery making background entirely; her filigree pieces are exquisitely delicate and charming. A true multi-tasker, handbags
and accessories are also part of the fashionable mix.
Made in Bali, Regina Garde is also stocked in LA, Singapore and Columbia, and the ambitious designer has her sights set on featuring in RAFW and New York Fashion Week in the not too distant future.
